| Simmons Bible University has been certified by Virginia’s
State Council For Higher Education (SCHEV). This certification
recognizes SBU as an educational institution whose primary purpose
is to provide religious and theological education. SCHEV certification
gives an institution the right to confer academic degrees.
Currently SBU is not an accredited institution. In the future
we may seek accredited status if it is consistent with our goals
as a Bible university. For your decision-making purposes, it
may be helpful to appreciate what accreditation really means.
In the United States there are over 50 recognized national accrediting
bodies, all of which are not-for-profit companies. Requirements
for becoming an accredited school differ greatly from one accrediting
body to another. In general terms, the national and regional
accreditors ensure the quality of the education provided by
an institution and work to prevent fraud from “degree-mills,”
places where diploma can be purchased without any academic work
being required. |
